This policy explains what shayarikhana.com collects, why, and what you can do about it. The site is run by [YOUR LEGAL NAME OR BUSINESS NAME] from [YOUR CITY], India.
The short version: you can read every page on this site without giving us anything at all. We collect information in only two situations — if you subscribe to the newsletter, or if you leave a comment. We do not run advertising, and we do not use analytics or tracking scripts.

Saved sher stay on your device
When you bookmark a couplet, it is stored in your own browser using a feature called local storage. It is never transmitted to us, and we have no way of seeing what you have saved. That is also why your saved list does not follow you to another device or survive clearing your browser data. To delete it, clear your browser’s site data for shayarikhana.com.
Your choice of script — Devanagari, Nastaliq or Roman — is remembered the same way.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, we store your email address. We use it for one thing: sending you the newsletter. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone.
Unusually for a website, your address is stored in this site’s own database rather than with a third-party mailing service, so it is not passed to another company at the point you subscribe. If we ever move to an external provider, we will say so on this page first.
To stop receiving the newsletter, or to have your address deleted entirely, email privacy@shayarikhana.com and we will remove it. We keep addresses until you ask us to remove them.
Comments
If you leave a comment, WordPress stores the name, email address and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser user-agent string. The IP and user-agent are used to help detect spam. Your name and comment are shown publicly; your email address is not.
Your browser may also store cookies remembering your name, email and website so that you do not have to retype them next time. These last about a year and you can decline them by leaving the “remember me” option unticked, or by clearing your cookies.
Comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised. Ask us and we will delete yours.
Fonts, and the one third party we do use
This site loads its typefaces — Cormorant Garamond, Tiro Devanagari Hindi, Noto Nastaliq Urdu and Mukta — from Google Fonts. To deliver them, your browser contacts Google’s servers, which means Google receives your IP address and can see which page requested the fonts. Google states that it does not use these requests to build advertising profiles. This is the only third party involved in loading a normal page here.
If you would rather not contact Google, a content blocker or a privacy-focused browser will stop the request; the site will still work and simply fall back to a font already on your device.
Sharing buttons don’t track you
The WhatsApp, Facebook, X and copy-link buttons on each couplet are ordinary links, not embedded widgets. No code from those companies runs on this site, and none of them learns that you visited a page unless you actually click through. If you do click, that company’s own privacy policy takes over.
Server logs
Like every website, our web host records requests: the IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser’s user-agent. These logs exist for security and to diagnose faults, are not used to profile you, and are rotated by the host in the ordinary course.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no ad networks.
- No Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or any other tracking or analytics script.
- No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties.
- No profiling, and no automated decisions about you.
- No cross-site tracking cookies. The only cookies are WordPress’s own, for comments and for logged-in administrators.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may ask us to tell you what personal data of yours we hold, to correct it if it is wrong, or to erase it. You may also withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time, and you may nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf if you are unable to.
Email privacy@shayarikhana.com and we will respond within 30 days. There is no charge. In practice, almost everything we hold about a reader is either an email address or a comment, and both are quick to remove.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you additionally have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the GDPR, and may complain to your local supervisory authority.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us their details, write to us and we will delete them.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and access to the administration area is restricted and password-protected. No website can promise perfect security, but we hold very little about you in the first place, which is the most effective protection there is.
Changes to this policy
If we add anything that collects data — an analytics tool, an advertising network, an external newsletter service, an embedded video — we will update this page and change the date at the top before doing so.
